Lap Band SurgeryThe lap band system is the brand name of the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band placed. The device received approval from the FDA nearly a decade ago after being used widely in Europe and Australia. A lap band doctor will perform a number of small incisions, then use a small camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize placement of the lap band. The lap band is located around the top of the stomach and maneuvered in place with sutures. The port is then situated beneath the skin on the upper part of the abdomen. Lap band surgery generally runs anywhere from half an hour to an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital may not be required. In looking at an Overview of Lap Band, a lap band adjustment can be done in a matter of minutes in a doctor's office weeks and months after the lap band surgery.
